The 2017 Shantang Baihua festival aims to "show the ancient charm of Shantang and carry forward the flower custom culture". By creating a flower custom culture atmosphere, it will carry out a series of flower folk custom activities to attract people, further promote the spring tourism market, and let citizens and tourists protect and inherit Wu folk culture in the interactive activities.

February 12 of the lunar calendar, the flower Dynasty, commonly known as the hundred flowers birthday, also known as the hundred flowers Festival. Since the Southern Song Dynasty, the flower culture has become an integral part of Suzhou people's lifestyle. The oldest and largest two flower temples are also located on Shantang street. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the flower festival was even more popular in Shantang and Huqiu areas.

Spring Festival is the theme of the festival. On the day of the activity, there were celebrations for the God of flowers, flower fairies touring the old street and "enjoying the spring charm of all flowers". In addition, a "new Suzhou person" was invited to wear traditional costumes to play the role of Flower God, to learn and experience the traditional flower festival culture of Suzhou, and to learn to sing Suzhou dialect ballads.
